Invitation to Participate
This highly-acclaimed Workshop, in its fourth year with the annual IAEM conference, will enhance understanding and advance implementation of a comprehensive emergency management, homeland security, and crisis communication program. The requirements, as described in the updated NFPA 1600 standard will be addressed.

Day 1
will cover Risk Analysis, Preparedness, Response Operations, EOC procedures, Coordination and Incident Control. Experiences from Bomb Threat Situations and Attacks will be used to illustrate efficient policies, strategies, and operational procedures. All attendees will participate in table-top exercises that incorporate complex scenarios.



Day 2
will focus on Risk Perception, Public Warning and Information, Crisis Communication and Media Management.
The challenges and dynamics of human factors in communication (receiving and distributing accurate information in a timely and appropriate manner) will be experienced in role playing activities. Participants will perform different roles in different, gather and assess facts, and distribute particulars to an impacted community and the media. Establishing and maintaining an effective crisis information capability, including news releases, public speaking in a hostile environment, and TV and radio interviews will be simulated using the following scenarios:

a) specific but not verified terrorist or other threat to the community, business, organization
b) major transportation accident
c) ongoing situation that is not contained



The 2-day workshop is a very interactive and provides outstanding learning opportunities through the table-top exercises and role playing.



The workshop will conclude with a written exam. After passing the test on Friday afternoon, each participant will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by IAEM and EDM.

One-day attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

The workshop is geared toward Senior Emergency Service, Management and Security Professionals working for Communities, Businesses, Critical Infrastructure Facilities and Transportation Systems.
Significant experience or responsibility in emergency planning, response and management is required.
We invite emergency management and homeland security officials from local, state, and federal agencies, chief officers from fire and police departments, EMS supervisors, medical and public health specialists, public information officers, special operations team leaders, security and business continuity directors, particularly those working in high profile environments or critical infrastructure.

WORKSHOP POLICIES:
Registration is transferable. 75% will be refunded if a written cancellation is received before October 1, 2004; 50% will be refunded if a written cancellation is received before October 15, 2004. Regrettably, no refunds can be made for cancellations received after that date. Again, a substitute delegate, however, is welcome even at the last minute.
