1953 Monrovia Peak Fire: burned over 14,000 acres

1955 Santa Barbara/ Ojai: burned over 77,000 acres

1956 Orange & San Diego Counties: 44,000 acres burned, 11 people died

  • large, unprotected window openings
  • insufficient clearance between homes and bushes/ trees
