1906 September 18th. Hong Kong: wind
speed up to 100 mph, estimated 10,000 people died
1959 South Korea: Typhoon Sarah, more than 840 people died in
flash flooding and landslides
1985 September
2nd. Philippines: Typhoon IKE,
wind speed up to 137mph; 1.12million people homeless, 300 people were
injured, and at least 1,300 died
2002 September
1st. South
Korea: Typhoon Rosa raved the region with 127mph winds and 3 feet of
rain over the weekend in the eastern and southern regions. It was the
highest precipitation since records began in the 1930s.
More than 17,000 houses and buildings in the Southern town of Gangneung
were submerged, forcing 27,474 residents to take shelter at public buildings
and schools.
Floods submerged 5,110 hectares (12,620 acres) of farmland. The flooding
and landslides across the country destroyed railways, bridges, and roads.
Up to 200 people died.
