Tent Fires


1942 August 4th. - USA, Ohio, Cleveland, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus: fire killed numerous large animals, including elephants, camels, and lions.

1944 July 6th. USA, Connecticut, Hartford, Barnum & Bailey circus: Tent caught fire during a performance, 163 people died, half of them children


1942 August 4th. USA, Ohio, Cleveland: Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey tent fire killed numerous large animals (i.e., elephants, camels)

1961 December 17th. Brazil, Niteroi: Circus Fire started by disgruntled employee, 323 people died

1995 December 23rd. India, Mandi Dabwali, Rajiv Marriage Palace: during a celebration a short circuit from an electric generator ignited a synthetic cloth tent; the unauthorized construction surrounded by high brick walls of the palace provided no means of evacuation and the main entrance was cut off by the flames; 441 people died, many of them children and at least 150 were injured; medical and emergency resources in the town of 50,000 were very limited or non-existent.
