1967 May 22nd. Belgium, Brussels,
Fire in the mayor department store L'Innovation, 322 people died
1973 November 29th. Japan, Kumamoto,
Fire in Taiyo department store, 101 people died
1999 October 30th. South Korea, Inchon
(30 miles west of Seoul), shopping complex: Fire started in the underground
floor of a four story-building that housed shops, karaoke and billiard
rooms. Most victims were found on the second and third floors. Local
EMS and hospitals were overwhelmed with the amount of casualties.71
people were injured and at least 54 people died, many of them teen-agers. 2004 August 1st - Paraguay, Asuncion:
a fire broke out at the crowded Ycua Bolanos supermarket, located in
a multilevel shopping mall in the outskirts of the capital city; more
than 400 people died and more than 276 were injured. |
