IAEM INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE

The Mission of the IAEM International Committee is identical to that of the

IAEM itself.

To serve the emergency management community by:

--Encouraging the development of disaster-resistant communities to reduce the effect   of disasters on life and property.

--Acting as a clearinghouse for information on comprehensive emergency management   issues.

--Providing a forum for creative and innovative problem-solving on emergency   management issues.

--Maintaining and expanding standards for emergency management programs and   professionals.

--Fostering informed decision-making in public policy within the emergency   management arena.

 

OBJECTIVES

The Committee’s objective is to:

  1. Change perspective and to raise awareness within the IAEM membership of the following.
    • The global scale of disaster experiences; disasters are local occurrences, but have worldwide consequences.
    • Future challenges of urban spreading, the growing and aging of populations, and the increasing impacts of natural events around the globe.
    • Existing standards and emergency management/civil defense organization throughout the world.
  2. Communicate with and outreach to the global Emergency Management Community.

 

ACTIVITIES

The Committee will perform the following activities in its efforts to fulfill the objectives listed above.

    • Publish at least one article in every IAEM Bulletin on Emergency Management/Response/Recovery Institutions outside the U.S.
    • Develop a database of disaster preparedness and relief organizations (governmental, NGO, and private) that are:
      • Operating on an international scale
      • Headquartered outside the U.S.
    • Establish and improve communication with those organizations.
    • Explore opportunities for joint activities, funding, and professional exchange programs.
    • Build strategic alliances and partnerships.
    • Prepare to participate in, or to host, at least one international conference outside the outside the U.S. with a group of at least 30 IAEM members within the next two years.
