Hotel Bombings and Shootings
1975
September 5th. - U.K., London, Hilton Hotel: IRA bomb; 2 people
died and 63 were injured.
1978 February 13th. - Australia, Sydney, Hilton Hotel: bomb placed
in a rubbish bin outside the hotel exploded; 3 people died and at least
7 were injured
1980 December 31st. - Kenya, Nairobi: bomb explosion in the Norfolk
Hotel, owned by a Jewish family; 16 people died.
1984 October 12th. - United Kingdom, Brighton, Grand Hotel: a 20lb
gelignite bomb planted by the IRA exploded during the Conservative Party
Conference; 5 people died and 34 were injured
1987 October 13th. - Philippines, Manila, Makati District, Manila
Garden Hotel: an explosive device concealed in a flower box exploded
in the driveway; 7 people were injured
1996 January 18th. - Ethiopia, Addis Ababa: explosion in a hotel
frequented by foreigners and diplomats; 4 people died and at least 20
were injured
1996 August 5th. - Ethiopia, Addis Ababa: bomb in a second hotel;
2 people died and 17 were injured
2002 March 27th. - Israel, Netanya, Park Hotel: a Palestine suicide
bomber blew himself up in the hotel restaurant; 20 people died and at
least 73 were injured
2002 May 8th. - Pakistan, Karachi, Sheraton Hotel: a suicide bomber
stopped his sedan car next to a Pakistan Navy bus that was about to
move from the hotel driveway and blew up; 14 people died and at least
18 others were injured; the majority of the casualties were French nationals
and other nationals
2002 November 29th. - Kenya, Kikambala near Mombasa, Paradise Hotel:
car bomb at the Israeli-owned 350-room hotel; at least 15 people died
2003 May 16th. - Morocco,
2003 July 22nd. -- Spain, Alicante, Residencia Bahia Hotel: 8 people
were injured
2003 July 22nd. - Spain, Benidorm, Nadal Hotel: 5 people, including
four police officers were injured
2003 August 5th. - Indonesia, Jakarta, JW Marriott Hotel: a car
bomb went of in the driveway of the 33-story building; 14 people died
and more than 145 were injured
