China, Hebei province, village of Guoxi: a fireworks plant built in 1984 with 169 employees on-site exploded and partially collapsed; workers had taken gunpowder outdoors to dry, causing the material to ignite in the hot sun which subsequently let to a major blast; at least 29 people, including the factory manager, died and more than 100 were injured |
