Nightclub Fire: West Warwick, Rhode Island, USA
2003 February 21st. (Thursday) 23:00h

A fire in the night club "the station" was started by the use of pyrotechnics during a performance of the band Great White. At least 86 people died in the blaze, 168 were injured. Some of the injured had to be airlifted to burn centers in Massachusetts.

According to news reports, the building recently passed a fire inspection, but had no sprinkler system and was not required to install one because of its "small" size. The capacity of the club was 300, but fewer people than that were inside at the time of the building.

The building's four fire exits were reported to be functioning.
