2004 June 24th - Africa, Northern Senegal: two passenger buses collided; 30 people died and injuring 29 others were injured.

2004 June 24th - Iran, between Bam and Zahedan (700 miles/1,100 km southeast of Tehran): at a police checkpoint in Nosratabad a gasoline tanker truck crashed into a line of public buses and exploded; more than 90 people died, and 100 others were injured.
Iran has one of the world's worst rates for road accidents. In 2002 more than 400,000 road crashes caused 21,000 deaths. The high tolls are blamed on unsafe vehicles, disregard of traffic laws and inadequate emergency services.

2004 June 22nd - Central France, near the town of Liguge, just south of Poitiers: a bus en route from Brussels to Spain with approximately 50 passengers on board crashed through a security barrier that separates a four-lane highway and flipped over; 12 people died and 29 others were injured.

2004 June 13th - North-east China, Liaoning province, near the city of Dandong: a bus with 31 passengers on board crashed and overturned just before midnight; 17 people died and 14 others were injured.
41 098 persons were killed in traffic accidents in China between January and May 2004.


2004 March 19th
- Finland, near the town of Konginkangas, some 300 km (200 miles) north of Helsinki: on an icy road a bus carrying 40 teenagers collided with a truck sending large paper rolls crashing into the bus; at least 23 youths died and 15 others were injured.


2003 September 22nd. -
Uganda, Kabale, near the border to Rwanda: a bus plowed head-on into a truck about 260 miles southwest of the capitol city Kampala; at least 46 people died and 33 were injured


2003 July 10th.
Hong Kong, Tuen Mun Highway, near Tin Kau bridge: at 6.30 am local time a KMB double decker bus carrying morning commuters and schoolchildren crashed through railings and hurtled down on to rocks 50 feet below; at least 22 people died and more than 20 were injured

2002 July 19th. - Uganda, western region: a fuel tanker rolled down a hill, crashed into a bus and exploded; all passengers aboard the bus, at least 70 people, died

2002 June 9th. USA, Texas, Interstate 20 near Loraine: A Greyhound motorcoach rear-ended a truck tractor-semitrailer; 3 passengers died, 30 people were injured, 6 of them, including the bus driver seriously; 5 passengers were unhurt.

2002 February 17th. -- China, Sichuan province, Tianquan county, village of Shuilai: a bus plunged down a 30-metre cliff; 8 people died and 21 were injured

2001 August 19th. USA, Tennessee, Interstate 24 near Pleasant View: A Greyhound motorcoach with 44 people aboard overturned at a speed of 70mph; 1 person died, 38 were injured; NTSB determined driver fatigue as the probable cause of the accident

2001 May 31st. USA, Arkansas, near Mountainburg:

1999 December 21st. USA, Colorado, Highway 50 near Canon City: A Sierra Trailways motorcoach with 60 people aboard lost control in a curve at a speed of 70mph, rolled down a 40-foot-deep embankment and came to rest on its roof; 3 people died, 57 were injured (33 serious and 24 minor).

1999 May 9th - USA, Louisiana, New Orleans: a chartered bus carrying 46 members of a seniors casino club swerved from the left lane off of Interstate 610, careened down an embankment, then crashed up a grassy slope; 23 people died and 17 other were injured.

1998 December 24th - USA, New Jersey: a gambling charter bus crashed en route to Atlantic City; 8 people died and 15 others were injured.


1997 February 13th. -- China, Guangdong province: a bus traveling on an expressway caught fire; as many as 39 passengers died.
