initially convicted of manslaughter, but prosecutors dropped the charges

Italy, Rome: building collapse, 27 people died 1999 November 11th Italy, City of Foggia: multi-story apartment building, built in 1968 and housing around 90 people, came down on itself; 68 people died 2001, March 4th. Portugal, Castelo de Pavia: A double-decker bus and two cars plunged into the swollen Douro river after a pillar supporting the 116-year-old bridge gave way. Estimated 70 people died when an 80-metre section collapsed. 2000 December 8th, Los Angeles, Echo Park: a two-story, 24-unit apartment building collapsed, one person was killed, 20 others suffered minor injuries. 2001 June 25th. Israel, Jerusalem: collapse of a multi-story banquet hall during a wedding dance; the event in West Jerusalem was attended by approximately 650 people, at least 23 people died, and 309 were injured; faulty construction is suspected for this worst civil disaster in Israel . ![]() 2004 February 15th - Russia, Moscow: more than 5,400 square yards of the glass and concrete roof at the 2-year-old Transvaal Water Park collapsed, burying hundreds of people, many of them children; more than 30 people died and 110 were injured. |
