2004 February 6th - Russia, Moscow: a suicide bomber blew himself up on a Green Line Subway train during morning rush hour. The bomb equivalent in force to 9-11 pounds of TNT, made of ammonia saltpeter and aluminum powder exploded in a tunnel between Avtozavodskaya station and Paveletskaya station; 41 people died, and more than 100 were injured.

Moscow's subway is the world's busiest in terms of passenger traffic, carrying as many as 8.5 million people a day.


2003 December 9th
- Russia, Moscow: a female suicide bomber blew herself up outside the National Hotel, across from the Kremlin and Red Square; 5 bystanders died.

2003 December 5th - Southern Russia: Suicide bombing on commuter train; 44 people died.

2003 September 16th - Russia, near Chechnya: Two suicide bombers drove a truck loaded with explosives into a government security services building; 3 people died and 25 were injured.

2003 August 1st - Russia, near Chechnya: Suicide bomber drove a truck filled with explosives into a military hospital; at least 50 people died.

2003 July 10th- Russia, Moscow: a police officer died while trying to defuse a bomb a woman had brought into a café.

2003 July 5th - Russia, Moscow: double suicide bombing at a rock concert; 17 people (including the female attackers) died.

2003 June 5th - Russia, Chechnya, Mozdok: a female suicide attacker detonated a bomb near a bus carrying soldiers and civilians to a military airfield; at least 16 people died.

2003 May 14th - Russia, Chechnya: a female suicide bomber blew herself up in a crowd of thousands of Muslim pilgrims; at least 18 people died.

2003 May 12th - Russia, Northern Chechnya: Suicide truck-bomb attack at a government; at least 60 people died.

2003 April 3rd - Russia, Chechnya: a passenger bus hits remote-controlled land mine in the capital city; at least 8 people died.

2002 December 27th - Russia, Chechnya: a suicide truck-bomb destroyed headquarters of Chechnya's Moscow-backed government; 72 people died.
