AVIATION ACCIDENT STATISTIC 2001
In 2001 there were 32 plane crashes with 1 or more fatalities (not counting
military & general aviation aircraft, and not counting the 9-11
attacks). In these accidents:
838 of the 956 occupants
died, only 118 (12.3%) survived.
In 23 passenger flight crashes (scheduled, charter, and commuter planes)
809 of the 908 occupants died, only 99 (10.9%) survived.
Of the 93 crew members, 15 (19.2%) survived, while only 10.2% of the
815 passengers onboard these planes survived.
In 9 cargo plane crashes, 29 of the 48 occupants (crew members) perished,
19 (39.6%) individuals survived.
The fatal accidents occurred in Africa (5), Asia (8), Europe (5), North
America (7), and South America (7), while Australia was spared from
these kinds of calamities.
In the 9-11 terrorist hijacking and crash of 4 major US airliners. All
266 people abroad died (33 crew and 233 passengers), together with 2870
people on ground (2750 in New York City, NY and 120 at the Pentagon).
