1970 February 15th. Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo: Dominicana DC-9 crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff; all 102 people aboard died 1970 February
21st. Switzerland: SwissAir plane CV-990, crashed due to a bomb
explosion, 47 people died 1970 July 3rd. Spain, Barcelona: Dan-Air British Comet disappeared into the Mediterranean Sea; no wreckage or bodies were ever found; all 112 people died 1970 July 5th. Canada, Toronto: Air Canada DC-8 crashes, 108 people died 1970 August 9th. Peru, Cuzco: Peruvian Lockheed L-188A aircraft crashed on takeoff after a failure of the no.3 engine; 99 of the 100 people aboard and 2 persons on the ground died. 1970 November 27th. USA, Anchorage Airport: Capitol International Airway DC-8 with military personnel failed to lift off during takeoff and overran the end of the runway, 46 people died, 170 survived 1970 December
31st. USSR, Leningrad: Soviet Aeroflot Ilyushin-18 crashed on take-off;
all 93 people aboard died 1971 January
23rd. South Korea: Korean Air Lines Fokker F-27, hijacked and ordered
to fly to North Korea. South Korean military aircraft forced the turboprop
to crash-land before the border, assailant then killed himself with
a hand grenade, 2 people died, 58 survived 1971 July 30th. Japan, Morioka: Japanese Boeing 727 and F-86 fighter collided in mid-air, 162 people died 1971 August 21th.Danmark, Copenhagen airport: Malev Illushyn II-18 crashed into the sea during landing approach, 3 survired, 28 people died 1971 September 4th. USA, Alaska, Juneau: Alaska Airlines Boeing 727 crashed into Mount Fair-weather while attempting an instrument landing at Juneau airport during a heavy snowstorm, all 109 people died 1971 September 6th. Germany, Hasloh: a Pan International BAC One-Eleven 515FB aircraft collided with a bridge shearing off both wings after a double engine failure during takeoff. The water-injection system to cool the engines was inadvertently filled with kerosene instead of water; 22 of the 121 people aboard died. 1971 October 2nd. Belgium, West Flanders, near Kanegam: BEA (British European Airways) Vickers Vanguard, flight 703 from London to Salzburg/Austria, crashed into the ground after a technical failure caused by undetected corrosion; all 63 people aboard (55 passengers, 8 crew) died on impact 1971 December 3rd. Canary Islands, Santa Cruz de Tenerife: Spantax Airlines Coonvair 990-A 1971 December 24th. - Peru, Puerta Inca: A Lineas Aereas Nacionales Lockheed L-188 was hit by lightning which led to a fire and a subsequent crash; 91 of the 92 people aboard died. 1972 January 7th. Spain, Ibiza: Iberia Airlines Caravelle crashed into surrounding mountains about 10 minutes after take-off from Ibiza airport

5th. Italy, Palermo: Alitalia DC-8 crashed into a mountain during
landing approach at Palermo airport, all 115 people died 1972 May 18th. USA, Florida, Ft. Lauderdale Airport: Eastern DC-9, hard landing resulted in failure of fuselage and subsequent fire 1972 May
30th. USA Dallas/ Fort Worth Graeter Southwest Airport: Delta Air
Lines DC-9, due to the weight of heavy jet crashed during landing on
the runway and exploded. The loss of control was the result of flying
into an extremely powerful but totally invisible vortex generated by
a DC-10 during its approach about a minute earlier all 4 people died
1972 June 14th. India, New Delhi: Japan Airlines DC-8, mid-air collision while landing at New Delhi’s airport, 87 people died, 6 survived 1972 June 18th. UK, London: BEA Hawker Siddeley Trident, crashed 5 minutes after takeoff, all 121 people died 1972 August
14th. East Germany, Konigs Wusterausen near Berlin: An Interflug
1972 October 13th. USSR, Moscow: Aeroflot Ilyushin-62 crashed, 176 people died 1972 December
3rd. Canary Islands, Santa Cruz de Tenerife: Spantax Airlines Convair
990-A jet carying West German tourists crashed on takeoff, all 155 people
died 1972 December 29th. USA, Florida, Miami/Everglades: Eastern Airlines Lockheed L-1011 Tristar with 176 occupants crashed during landing approach into the swamp 14 miles west of the Miami International airport; despite a tremendous, non-survivable impact, 77 people survived, 60 of them with severe injuries, 99 persons died. 1973 January
22nd. Nigeria, Kano: Nigerian Airlines Boeing 70, pilgrims returning
from Mecca, all 176 people died 1973 April 10th. Switzerland, Basel: BEA Vanguard Turboprop crashed into a wooded hillside during landing approach at Basel airport, 107 people died, 39 survived 1973 July
11th. France, Paris: Brazilian Varig Boeing 707(727) enroute from
Rio de Janeiro crash-landed 3 miles short of Orly airport after a cabin
fire, that started had in a lavatory: 122 people died (most of them
due to smoke inhalation), 10 crewmembers and 1 passenger survived 1973 July 31st. USA, Massachusetts, Boston: Delta Airlines DC-9 crashed on landing at Logan Airport, 88 people died, 1 survived 1973 November 3rd.USA, Massachusetts, Boston: PanAm Cargo Boeing 707 crashed landed short of the runway after an in-flight fire. All 4 crew members died. 1973 December 23rd. Morocco, Mt. Mallaytine: Sabena Caravelle 1973 France, Paris Airport: Boeing 727 landed 8 minutes after fire broke out in laboratory, 124 people died, 2 survived 1974 January 30th. Pan American Boeing 707 1974 March 3rd. 12:40h, France, Paris: THY Turkish Airlines DC-10 crashed in forest shortly after takeoff due to separation of cargo door, all 360 (347?) people died 1974 April 22nd. Indonesia, Island of Bali, Tinga-Tinga: A PanAm Boeing 707 crashed on landing approach into a mountain about forty miles northwest of the airport; 1974 December 1st. Northwest Orient Airlines Boeing 727 1974 December 4th. Sri Lanka, Colombo: Dutch DC-8 carrying Indonesian Muslims pilgrims to Mecca crashed, 191 people died 1974 December . USA, Dulles Airport near Washington D.C.: TWA Boeing 724 slammed into a hill, all 92 people died 1974 . Kenya, Lufthansa 1975 April 4th.. Vietnam, near Saigon: Air Force Galaxy C-58A crashed after take-off, 172 people, mostly Vietnamese children, died1975 June 24th. USA, New York, JFK airport: Eastern Air Lines Boeing 727, flight 66 from New Orleans struck approach lights during a runway 22L ILS approach. The aircraft broke up and caught fire; 115 of the 124 people aboard died. 1975 July 31st. Taiwan, Taipei: Far East Air Transport Vickers 837 Viscount crashed during a thunderstorm, 27 people died, 48 survived. 1975 August
3rd. Morocco, Agadir: chartered Alia Boeing 707, returning Moroccan
workers home after vacation in France, plunged into mountainside, all
188 people died 1975 November 12th. USA, New York, JFK Airport: overseas national DC-10, engine explosion and fire during take-off 1976 February 8th.USA, California, Los Angeles, Van Nuys: A chartered DC-6 crash-landed on a golf course near Van Nuys Airport; while using a rotary saw to free trapped occupants leaking fuel ignited and injured 10 firefighters. Three flight crew members died on impact, while the three members of the cabin crew escaped with only minor injuries. 1976 April 17th. USA, Virgin Islands, St. Thomas Airport: American Airlines Boeing 727 from JFK landed on St. Thomas Airport, overshoot the runway and crashed into a gasoline station; 37 people died, 51 survived, only a few of them sustained severe burn injuries. 1976 May
23rd. Philippines, Mindanao, Zamboanga Airport, Philippine Airline
BAC 1-11, hijacker hold aircraft on the ground hostage, after initial
successful negotiation the situation escalated in gunfire and hand-grenade
explosions, 13 people died 1976 August 6th. USA, Illinois, Chicago: Air Chicago Freight Aircraft, a converted B25 bomber crashed during an emergency landing at Midway airport; 2 pilots and 1 person on the ground died. 1976 September 10th. Yugoslavia, Zagreb: Mid-air collision between British Airways Trident and Yugoslav charter DC-9, all 176 people died
1976 December 25. Thailand, Bangkok: Egyptair Boeing 707 crashed on landing approach into a industrial area 1.5 miles short of the runway. All 53 people aboard and 19 on the ground died.
1977 January 13. USSR, Kazakh Republic, Alma-Ata Airport: Aeroflot Tupolev Tu-104 crashed on landing approach 2 miles short of the runway after experiencing an engine fire; all 90 people aboard 1977 March 27th.Tenerife, Los Rodeos Airport: Pan American Boeing 747 (394 people on board) landing and KLM Boeing 747 (249 people on board) take-off collided on the runway at 17:10 during fog, 583 people died, 61 survived
1977 April 4th. USA, Georgia, Hope: a Southern Airways DC-9 with 85 people aboard experienced the failure of both engines during a severe hailstorm and attempted an emergency landing on a two-lane highway;70 people (62 occupants and 8 on the ground) died 1977 November 21st. Argentina, Bariloche: an Austral Lineas Aeras Tupolev TU-134 with 79 people aboard crashed after executing a missed approach; 46 people died. 1977 December 4th. Malaysia, Joho Bahrain, Malaysian Airline System Boeing 737, mid-air explosion due to a hijacking attempt, all 100 people died 1977 December 18th. Madeira Island, Fantail Airport, Sata-Airlines Caravelle crashed into the sea during landing approach, 36 people died 1978 January 1st. India, Bombay, Air India Boeing 747, exploded and plunged into sea minutes after takeoff, all 213 people died 1978 March 1st. USA, Los Angeles Airport, Continental DC-10 to Honolulu during liftoff tires blew apart, plane overshot runway, and was immediately engulfed in flames, due to the quick response of LA airport fire service only 3 people died, 195 survived 1978 April 20th. USSR, Korean Airlines Boeing 707 was shot and forced to crash landing on a frozen lake by soviet air fighters, 2 people died, 107 survived *1978 May
8th. USA, Florida, Pennsicola, National Boeing 727 on approach
landing short in 12 feet of water, 3 people died *1978 September 25th. 9:02 AM, USA, San Diego, Pacific Southwest Boeing 727-214, mid air collision with Cessna over the city , all 137 people and 7 residents died 1978 November 15th. Sri Lanka, Colombo, Bandaranaike Airport: chartered Icelandic Airlines DC-8, carrying pilgrims from Mecca, crashed in thunderstorm during landing approach 1 mile short of the runway, 183 people died, 66 survived. 1978 December 23rd. Italy, Sicily, Palermo Airport: 4 miles short of the runway an Alitalia DC-9 crashed on landing approach into the Mediterranean Sea; 21 people survived, rescued by fishing boats, 108 people died 1978 December 28th. Parbados, Bridgetown Airport, British Airways Boeing 747, during re-fueling, host seperated from cuopling *1978 December
28th. USA, Oregon, Portland United Airlines DC-8 run out of fuel
and charted short of the runway, 10 people died, 179 survived *1979 May 25th. USA, Chicago Internat. Airport, American Airlines DC-10, crashed 30 seconds after takeoff, all 281 people and 2 residents died 1979 July 31st. UK, Shetlands, near Sumburgh: Dan Air Hawker Siddeley H-748-1 overran a runway and crashed into the ocean; 17 people died, 30 survived. 1979 October 7th. Greece, Athens Airport, SwissAir DC-8 overran the runway after landing because of rainy and slippery conditions, 14 people died
1979 October 31, Mexico, Mexico-City, Benito Juarez Airport: Western Air Lines DC-10 collided with a dumpster truck while landing on a closed runway, crashed into airport buildings and caught fire. 72 people died, 17 survived, 15 of them with injuries. 1979 November 26th. Saudi Arabia, Jidda, Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 707, carrying pilgrims returning from Mecca crashed on take-off, all 156 people died 1979 November 28th.
