NEW YORK 8:45 a.m. In the first attack, a hijacked Boeing 767, American Airlines Flight 11, took off from Boston at 7:45 a.m. bound for Los Angeles with 92 people aboard (81 passengers, 11 crew). It hit the 110-story World Trade Center's north tower (building #1) in Manhattan. 9:03 a.m. United Airlines Flight 175, en route from Boston to Los Angeles with 63 people aboard (56 passengers, 7 crew) crashed into the 110-story World Trade Center's south tower (building #2). 9:17 a.m. FAA shut down all New York City area airports. 9:21 a.m. New York Port Authority closed all bridges and tunnels leading to and from Manhattan. 10:05 a.m. The World Trade Center's building #1 collapsed. 10:13 a.m. The United Nations building was evacuated. 10:28 a.m. The World Trade Center's building #2 collapsed. 2:30
p.m. The World Trade Center's 47-story building #7 collapsed.
WASHINGTON, D.C. 9.43 a.m. American Airlines Boeing 757 Flight 77 with 64 people aboard (58 passengers, 6 crew), en route from Dulles/Washington to Los Angeles was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon Building. Fortunately, the effected section was partially empty due to remodeling efforts. 9:45 a.m. The White House was evacuated. 10:10 a.m. A portion of the Pentagon building collapsed. 10:22 a.m. The Departments of State and Justice and the World Bank were evacuated. 10:45
a.m. All US federal office buildings ordered evacuated.
PITTSBURGH 10:10 a.m. United
Airlines Flight 93 took off from Newark, New Jersey, at 8:01 a.m. en route
to San Francisco. It crashed in a rural area of Somerset County, PA, southeast
of Pittsburgh. NATION
10:24 a.m. FAA directs all incoming international flights to Canada. All day long, countless US businesses, airports, and high-rise office buildings (i.e., Chicago¹s Sears Tower) were evacuated, amusement parks (i.e., Walt Disney theme parks), and government buildings (including city halls and court buildings), monuments, and landmarks were shut down, large events (i.e., sports, concerts) were cancelled or postponed, US stock markets were closed. Five battleships and two aircraft were deployed from Norfolk, Virginia, along the East Coast. Two aircraft carriers were dispatched to the New York area. The entire country is in shock.
