We are very pleased to announce that the 4th INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON AVIATION EMERGENCIES will take place March 29 - April 1, 2004, at the Sheraton Suites on the Hudson in Weehawken, New Jersey (just across the Hudson River, less than 1 mile from Manhattan's Times Square).

The 4-day event will focus on

  • Aviation Terrorism and Security (Day 1, Monday);
  • Preparedness and Response to Airplane Accidents and Airport Emergencies (Day 2, Tuesday);
  • Emergency Medical and Public Health Issues -- from SARS to Smallpox (Day 3, Wednesday);
  • Crisis and Consequence Management in the Aviation Industry, including Planning, Communication, Cooperation, Competence Training, and Business Continuity (Day 4, Thursday).

Symposium Dinner Cruise: Monday, March 29

As we have in years past, we will deliver top-notch presentations and training, outstanding networking opportunities, and the overall value that our attendees have experienced and come to expect.

The theme "Managing Credible Threats" emphasizes the importance of identifying hazards and assessing risks by using factual data and plausible methods. The aviation industry faces a myriad of new challenges and threats -- some needing more attention than others.

For instance, the probability, dynamics, and consequences of plane accidents has certainly changed over times, making some of the existing regulations and requirements look outdated and questionable.
On the other hand, the exposure of thousands of people packed inside large terminal buildings may be a growing concern. Recent events (i.e., Duesseldorf, Germany or LAX) demonstrate that those vulnerabilities must be addressed by airlines and airports, and should be recognized by regulatory entities.

To improve preparedness and response to aviation emergencies, the Symposium will once again offer an excellent environment for participants from all over the world to exchange experiences and knowledge on mitigation strategies, policies, resources, and equipment.
